1038. Cayman Caper II - stroll
Georgetown, Cayman Islands
Hard for boxes to stay put in this area where cruise passengers come into dock in Georgetown on Grand Cayman, but hopefully this little travelin' light will endure a bit longer than the last one we planted several years ago. From the front of the Elmslie Memorial United Church just north of North Terminal, go around back to the far side of the church and continue a block east to Burger King. You should see the colorful history wall ahead with a black plaque-covered wall and a few stairs to its right. Go up the stairs to the center crossing of the blue compass lines marking the middle of the cement platform in this small park space. Facing left toward the sharp "rock garden" with the large strangler fig, take a few steps at 310* and sit down at the left edge of the cement embankment by the side of the wall under a turtle wielding a thunderbolt. Near your left foot should be a strangler fig root growing into that left corner. When we planted, there was a nice little space right under that root to place a flat 2"x1" rectangular gray stone with "Cayman" stamp on back, and to cover it with a small sharp well-fitted chunk of that lighter gray dolomite. However, we don't know how fast that strangler fig will grow, and the little Cayman stone could get trapped in there if letterboxers don't come to check on it! So, please do check on it to make sure it isn't getting strangled, and, if it is, please move it to a safer spot - even if that is just up above together with other similar-sized stones along the edge of the wall!
