1040. Last Few Snowflakes Fly in the Quiet Corner
a mini-stroll on the Airline Trail in NE CT

For those who didn't get to find any of connecticut croaker's special snowflakes that we planted in late fall 2019 around several nice preserves in southern RI, we thought that, before the official end of winter, we'd try to provide one last opportunity for others to find at least a few of them near our local tri-state corner (RI-CT-MA), especially since the end of winter corresponds rather neatly this year with the "Pi Day" gathering in nearby Douglas, MA!

Turns out we only had time to plant three of these cuties as we had to make our way back home rather quickly from our last short tri-state trip after spending several months hiking down south. We'd like to get back up to CT's Quiet Corner to plant more of these snowflakes again if time permits, but with two much longer upcoming trips looming, that may not be possible. So, this trio just might have to suffice as "official end-of-season snowflake representatives" for this year!

To find them, drive west on SW Main in Douglas State Forest, MA a couple of miles from the MA/CT state line to the westside trailhead crossing of the Airline Trail on East Thompson, CT. From the north side of the yellow gate there, simply take a seat on the nearest large flat squarish boulder, and pull out "Grumpy Cat" in a small black pouch hiding under a flat stone by its northwest corner on the side closest to a birch tree. Then tuck him back well so he doesn't get any grumpier!

Now, to find the reindeer, just walk about a hundred steps west down the old railroad bed, and look behind a two-antlered pine on the right for the first one. Another hundred steps or so should get you to a short angled side path on the right with a large two-foot rock in the middle of it about twenty steps in and the second reindeer pouched behind. Hope you enjoyed this little sampling of connecticut croaker's unusual snowflakes!
