USA Mystery
A short piney walk to a pretty brook near a scenic pond
Scrounging through boxes and boxes of old letterboxing stuff to try to find something we could plant, we came across a stamp carved by sewsewbizzy in a black pouch marked “please do not remove” in Italian! We had considered planting it on our last trip to Italy, but didn’t know what Italians might make of it, if they found it by accident, so we put it temporarily aside. Now, however, we wanted to plant any stamps that we could find, so off we went with it to a pond straddling the border of two states and headed south on a yellow trail along the eastern side of that pond.
When we approached the southern end of the scenic pond, we crossed a “troll area” and spotted directly ahead a large two-trunk tree that looked sort of like two legs sticking up out of a big slanted boulder. We placed the little pouch in the crotch under pine needles and then went left up the right side of the cascading brook to check out the small side trail there. Almost immediately, it seemed, a young gal came bounding across the boardwalk, ran straight up the slanted rock and looked over into the crouch where we had just planted the pouch! Well, we decided that that rock and tree combo was just too obvious and irresistible, so we quickly retrieved the pouch and took it up the side trail we had just been exploring. From the flatter area where the brook takes a sharp turn to the left, we walked maybe another dozen or so steps forward and tucked the pouch beneath a stone under the far right overhang of the large boulder to the right. Finding what the Italians were told not to remove probably would have given them a chuckle, too!;-)
