1075. Star Wars Snowflakes Strike Back in RI Again!
Richmond, RI
We still haven't gotten these whimsical snowflakes back over the border to CT yet either, so we're transplanting them for a couple of weeks to a different part of RI, for those who didn't get them when they were in Charlestown, or for those who just want to get out for another local walk. This walk is a 1.5 mile loop east of Grass Pond in Richmond that is accessed by driving just under 4 miles east on route 138 from exit 3 off I-95, turning right briefly on Beaver River Road, then doing a quick R-L-R on Anthony Drive, Del Bonis Drive, and Ellen Brady Drive, to park in the cul de sac at the west end. Small black pouches hide all of these stamps that are currently inked in blue, green and red.
1) Jabba
Take the blue-blazed trail north from the kiosk. Pass through a stone wall and look on the left side behind the first large rock under a round grapefruit-sized stone.
2) Kylo Ren
Continue north with blue blazes, then left at map to the next stone wall. Look under an avocado-sized garnet-specked stone behind 2nd and 3rd rocks on left.
3) Yoda
Cross grassy 4-way junction and continue straight south about 50 steps to a mossy green ledge overlooking the parking lot below. Then take another dozen or so steps SSW to a lichen-covered sitting rock and look under a chunky potato rock on its north side.
Return to junction and continue west with blue blazes. Travel for awhile to a distant world!
4) Akbar
Return to the 4-way and go left (west) with the blue blazes. When rounding a curve right, see a stone wall off trail ahead and a small V-shaped wall fragment much closer on the left side of the trail. Look under a stone beneath the point of the 2nd rock of that small wall.
5) Nien Numb
Pass through a stone wall and pine blowdown area. At the next stone wall, stand on slick rock in the middle of trail and look left under a slice of melon-shaped rock behind the tree that lets you know that you are now entering "TNC".
6) Maz Kanata
Continue to a "T" junction where blue blazes go right on the grassy abandoned part of Wilbur Hill Road. Before taking that right turn, look under two stones behind the slanted rock on the right side of the tree on the right with double blue blazes.
Now turn the corner and head east with the blue blazes along the old road, passing a golf course on your left, and soon turning right again to follow blue all the way back to your car.
