1128. Wonderland HHH continues into the 20's - drive-by
Richmond, RI
Placed 25 Aug 2020
Update 22 Nov 2020: At present exit 3 is also troubled by road construction.
Box is retired for the duration.
What?! Another HHH in RI!? Does
that make us the smallest state with the most HHH's? Until recently we
have never had more than one HHH open for business at a time in our area
and each of the other two HHH's we had previously put out got retired
many years ago! However, in this year of covid, we are just trying to
get as much "salvageable stuff" back out there "in the wild" as we can,
and this one has been around unofficially for quite a while, just that
not too many people seemed to have known about it! It was originally
given to us by blackvelvetrav as the "Wonderland Trail" box for the
"Wanda's Wanda-rings" Series, but the logbook for it was so large that
we figured we might as well put it in a big box and call it an HHH, too!
Anyway, when we finally took the box back out to WA to plant
near the Wonderland Trail itself a couple of years ago, we couldn't find
a spot big enough to hide it well, so it ended up coming back to RI with
us and getting planted in a large rocky cliff area right off I-95 exit
4, where it seems to have languished with only a couple of visitors over
several years! Recently during Covid we noticed that lots of
construction vehicles were using that spot to work on a nearby bridge,
so we thought we had better move the box before it got found by any of
the workers on their lunch break or whatever. So, we moved it back down
an exit to near where our second HHH had been during its previous
lifespan. There by the "park and ride" on the east side of exit 3 is
where we left it for now. Just go to the south side of the guardrail
parallel to the western side of the "park and ride", and walk about 20
steps west to a pine, then about a dozen more steps southwest to a
multi-tree with two large trunks and three smaller ones. In front of
that tree well covered with pine needles and white birch sticks is where
we have hidden the Wonderland HHH for now. Please remember that this is
a "take one/ leave one", "take two/ leave two"- type HHH, but it would
be nice to see some of these hitchers that have been here for a very
long time finally getting out for another ride!
