1214. Travelin' light in San Diego 5/1/22
"Travelin' lights" (the name we gave years ago to little stones with stamps glued on back without any other sort of letterbox container) are literally the last things we happen to think of these days when getting ready for any of our more recent trips, or so it seems! Once we have booked a trip, planned our sight-seeing itineraries and such, and packed as lightly as we possibly can, only then do we seem to remember anymore to look to see if there are any letterboxes within our time and distance framework. If not, often within the very last hour or so before getting ready to fly off to the airport, we might try to hen-scratch a couple of these tiny "mementos" to leave somewhere near our proposed routes (and sometimes we even forget to do that!;-) So, don't expect much at all in the way of carving or placement for these lightweight stamps, just basically meant for something to do while quickly passing through...
Anyway, to find this particular "travelin' light", just head towards the westernmost pedestrian entrance/exit when going to or from the San Diego airport. It is located off of North Harbor Drive across from Spanish Landing, adjacent to the east side of the Marine Corp Recruit Depot. Midway along the road between North Harbor Drive and the pedestrian gate/airport parking garage, see a group of three boulders on the west side of the road with an agave growing nearby. Amidst pebbles behind the middle boulder, just below a large angled drill hole, is where we left this 1-inch dark gray stone with San Diego scratched in pink on back!
