1216. Travelin' light in Astoria Astoria, OR 5/5/22
"Travelin' lights" (the name we gave years ago to little stones with stamps glued on back without any other sort of letterbox container) are literally the last things we happen to think of these days when getting ready for any of our more recent trips, or so it seems! Once we have booked a trip, planned our sight-seeing itineraries and such, and packed as lightly as we possibly can, only then do we seem to remember anymore to look to see if there are any letterboxes within our time and distance framework. If not, often within the very last hour or so before getting ready to fly off to the airport, we might try to hen-scratch a couple of these tiny "mementos" to leave somewhere near our proposed routes (and sometimes we even forget to do that!;-) So, don't expect much at all in the way of carving or placement for these lightweight stamps, which are basically just meant for something to do while quickly passing through...
Anyway, for this particular "travelin' light", which we dropped off while hiking down from Astoria Column yet again in the pouring rain, just go to the historical marker at the junction of Jerome and 15th Street, and look down the steep speed-bumped pedestrian ramp that is the continuation of this part of 15th Street heading north. Note the east/west matching cement benches here on the north side of the "gateway", and look under a rock tucked into the eastern corner of the western cement bench to see where we left a little stone with Astoria carved on back.
