"Jewels of the Baltic": Tallinn
6/12/23 stroll

1231. Tallinn, Estonia: To see where we left this little "travelin' light" stone, you need to find the "most important gate" of the Hanseatic League in Old Town (Vanalinn) Tallinn. This would be, of course, the one facing the sea, the "Great Coastal Gate" through which all the merchandise would have entered and through which now the cruise tourists pour into town. Read the sign and view Tallinn's coat of arms added in 1529 to the portal above the 14th century gate. Then take about two dozen steps back toward the sea and look about a foot and a half up on the seaside cement-filled ledge of a leaning tree. That is where we left a tiny flat dark gray sandwiched between two thin slivers of white manmade limestone!
