"Jewels of the Baltic": Helsinki
6/13/23 stroll
1232. Helsinki, Finland: Another "travelin' light' stone we almost forgot to plant until we were heading back to the new cruise terminal by way of a mini-golf course, beach and new sauna complex. There in a small triangle formed by the junction of Merikatu (Havegatten) and Weckrellin (Vechselwagen), we were surprised to see a very angry-looking naked man lurking in a shady corner! No worries - he's just a stone figure called Taistelija, the Fighter, carved by Victor Jansson in 1913. So, if you go over and carefully look under the protruding pedestal beneath his left foot, you should be able to make out the cracked well-fitted lines of a 2" white triangle rock under which we left a 1" flat dark gray oval stone with "Helsinki" on back. Careful, please, with exact replacement!
