1235. Escapadin' through Edinburgh - stroll
Edinburgh, Scotland
8/25/23
After hobbling up and down the Royal Mile and its environs in Old Town Edinburgh (aka "Auld Reekie"), visiting a myriad of museums, churches, closes, and Edinburgh Fringe Festival events, we thought we'd escape down the hill to the green sunken swath called the Princes Street Gardens below the castle between Old Town and New Town for a brief reprieve to go and "see the elephant". To find the spot where we left a small memento of our visit there, first go to the beautiful "first-in-the world" floral clock at the northeast corner of the park west of the Walter Scott Memorial and the Scottish National Gallery, then continue down the steps, curving left and right on the paved path past Great Aunt Lizzie's until you see the large brown baby elephant on the lawn to your left. From there, head south across the grass towards the foot of the hill with the castle above. You should see a small trail leading into a wee bit of woodland along the railroad tracks where we left a small grey oval "travelin' light" stone with its "Edinburgh" stamp glued on back, low to the ground in the midst of a 4-trunk holly, about 10 steps prior to reaching grey box Feeder Pillar 12A to the southwest. Hope it stays there awhile!
