1241. Another Eastern Mediterranean Cruise: Turkey (Kusadasi)
Kusadasi, Turkey
We actually got quite a kick out of telling folks that we were going to Turkey for Thanksgiving this year! We weren't really expecting much in the way of turkey in Turkey, but turns out the name of the city we visited, Kusadasi, actually means something like "Bird Island", and since a turkey is indeed a big bird, that turned out to be quite appropriate for a Thanksgiving trip after all, plus the turkey dinner was fantastic!
Anyway, to find this particular "travelin' light" stamp, go to Guvercinada, "Pigeon Island", at the end of a causeway just south of Kusadasi cruise port. Take the upper loop clockwise around the old pirate castle with the statue of Barbarosa's brother on the right and the lighthouse on the left. Find the sign for "Turkish Pine". Go up four shallow stairs behind it to sit on the patio's top step by a small olive tree. Reach down with your left hand into that corner of the patio wall under pine needles and a small round chunk of concrete. There under a small flat somewhat triangular piece of limestone is where we left a 1-inch rounded reddish stone with Turkey glued onto its backside!
