530. Wanda's Wanderings: Long Path
Another stamp, carved by Lightnin' Bug of PA, now out on its original namesake trail in the Catskills of NY
Finally got this stamp off the Wanda's Wanderings circuit in RI and back out on the
Long Path in NY on a spring 2014 trip in memory of having backpacked that trail from
the George Washington Bridge through the Catskills 30 years previously as a spring
"warm-up" for my first PCT! The Long Path has gone through a few changes since that
time, of course, since one section I remember backpacking up the backside of
Kaaterskill Falls (highest in NY state) in the midst of a horrendous thunderstorm
apparently got closed as being too dangerous just a couple of years later! Anyway, we
decided to leave this commemorative stamp at the place where the newer relocation
coming up from the LP trailhead on route 23 just west of Palenville rejoins the
original traiI along the escarpment. There are several ways to reach this junction of
yellow and blue-blazed trails, all about the same distance - i.e. about 2miles.
However you might choose to get there, you will know you are at the right junction
when you see a post with 2 perpendicular signs, one stating:
| Boulder Rock | 1.3 | |
| N. Lake Campsite | 2.0 | |
| Scutt Rd Parking Lot | 2.2 | |
| and the other mistakenly stating: | ||
| Bogart Rd Parking Lot | 1.3 | |
| Palenville Overlook | 5.7 | |
