731. Fun in Funchal
A short stroll through lovely Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira
Fun was everywhere in Funchal when we visited during “Carnaval” - parades and music flowing through just about every “praca”. If you visit at a quieter time, however, and want to see where we left this little “travelin’ light” stone, just head up a block or so from the marina and a few blocks west from the Catedral Se on Avenida Arriaga. From the large fountain there at Rondo do Infante, continue west up the steps towards Parque de Santa Catarina. At the first terrace (second landing), a somewhat circular one just before the metal gates into the park itself, take a seat on the stone wall by the left side of the entrance gate. There were already several small stones in the sharply-angled corner atop that stone wall, so w e tucked a tiny flat one with “Funchal” on back in the very apex of the point under a sharply pointed somewhat larger whitish stone. Hope you enjoy your stroll through all the beautiful flowers and plants in this lovely park!
