776. Heading to Half Moon (Half Baked)
A very crude little moon for one of our favorite cruisin’ private islands
From the lovely white sand crescent beach where HAL disgorges its passengers onto its own private island in the southern Bahamas, stroll past the tropical brunch picnic pavilions to pick up the marked nature trail, then continue mostly north on it to find the place where it crosses the paved road to the Water Sports Center. There are small “Nature Walk” signs on either side of the road here and a grass covered 3-sided bench nearby to the northwest. Just east of this spot is a pile of blackened limestone rocks about 2 feet high and 10 feet wide. Discreetly examine the top of this pile under a dark stone near a slice of white rock and a somewhat greenish rock to hopefully locate where we left a small slightly curved tan stone with a half moon (or lemon slice, if you prefer) glued on back.
