821. More Memories of Malta
A “travelin’ light” tucked away in a xeric garden below the southwestern ramparts of Valetta, Malta

The stamp we left in the Lower Barraka Gardens along the southeastern ramparts a couple of years ago apparently didn’t last very long, so we’re trying again, this time in the Herbert Ganado Gardens below the southwestern wall. To reach this spot from the cruise port, walk east along the waterfront to a sharp left turn up Crucifixion Hill. Shortly cross over to the north side of the street and go up the Karakala steps, passing the “Cat Hotel” on the left. (These little buildings that look small dog houses are the only place where it is legal to feed cats in this area.) Turn right into the gardens just before the upper parapet, and continue easterly to just before some steeply descending worn steps flanked by large tan amphoras on pedestals. From the lamppost with a broken plastic cover (2019) there on the left, simply turn back a dozen or so steps, and look on the right side of a large agave a few feet up on the northern embankment. There under the middle of three rocks (a tannish slice of pizza pie-shaped one), we left another small gray stone with Malta on back. Hope this one lasts a bit longer.
