848. Vibrant Vilnius
A colorful quirky stop just south of Old Town in Lithuania’s capital

Many people think of lots of churches, mostly Baroque, when they picture Vilnius, but there are other lively places, like Uzupis across the Vilna River to visit there as well. And then there’s this spot where we left another “travelin’ light” stone just a bit southwest from the “Gates of Dawn”.

After walking through Old Town and under that upper level gate, simply continue south on Ausros Vartu Gatve, then turn west on on Gelezinkelio Gatve to where you may see some golden arches ahead. When you are at the top of a triangular park for what may have been a transit stop at one time, take a seat on the eastern parapet of a low cement wall by a multi-trunk tree and look out to the north for smoke curls from a BBQ joint swirling around a big pig head and colorful murals, including one depicting a pinkish Trump and a greenish Putin in a very close encounter! (A 6’ gray metal box may actually be blocking your view of the mural when you are sitting in the right spot.) Anyway, there between the tree trunk and the cement wall under a 6” black stone is where we left a flat dark 1” stone with a pink “Vilnius” stamp on back!
