853. Wanda’s Wanda-rings: Long Trail #2 Woodford, VT
Funny story on this one. Planted Long Trail #1 near here a few years ago, but couldn’t seem to find one of the four Long Trail stamps that Bluebird had custom-made to go along with my other Long Trail hikes back at that time. Found it recently when sifting through a box of small flat stones, getting ready to prep some more “travelin’ lights” for an upcoming trip to Peru. Meanwhile, we were planning another quick trip up to the Adirondacks, so I figured that route 9 would probably be the quickest way to get that newly found Long Trail stamp back out on the trail. So, off we went driving west from Brattleboro about 34 miles to the AT/LT crossing with its fairly large parking lot on the north side about 5 miles east of Bennington, and headed northbound on the trail across the bridge to where we had once left LT #1.
Well, it turns out that LT #1 had now gone missing, probably when the stone hiding it got moved to make a fire ring! So, we decided we might as well just leave LT #2 nearby - only now with a less moveable rock for cover. So, to find the new location for LT#2, from standing just left of the pole at the middle of the far end of the bridge, go 6 steps at 90 deg to a flat stone in front of a 2-tree with a hole and and old metal marker on its left trunk. Then go past that tree for another 6 steps at 100 deg to the tallest of the few rocks in the immediate area ( 1’ high and 2’ long, slightly pyramidal-shaped and slightly mossy). Now, when no one else is hiking through, just look under its east, downstream side under a 4” flat dark stone for a small camo pouch with LT #2.
