855. Snow on Snow Mountain Keene Valley, NY
To find this little “travelin’ light” stone, make your way up to the top of Snow Mountain from route 73 in Keene Valley any way you wish. We went up by way of Rooster Comb from the main Keene Valley trailhead parking lot (about a 3-mile loop), but shorter options are available. However you get there, from the last dirt patch before solid rock, just before the rocky drop off with a view back down to route 73 SE and Giant Mountain NE, turn around to see a yellow trail marker nailed on a pine. Standing near it, take about 10 steps back up the solid rock trail and sit on a comfortable rock bench to your right. You should see another yellow marker on a fir a few feet away to your left. On the ground under the southern overhang of the rock bench you are sitting on is where we left a bit of “SNOW” on the back of a 1” piece of white quartz tucked beneath a 3” gray stone and a stick of gray birch.
