865. Fishing around at Winniweta Falls
Quick drive-by while passing through the White Mountains on route 16 near Jackson, NH
Placed: 18 Aug 2019

We were going to plant this little "travelin' light stonefish" at the famous "Stonefish" near the Maine/NH border by the Shelburne Birches of route 2 on our way home from the Woodstock 50 celebration in Woodstock/Bethel, Maine. However, we somehow forgot and went whizzing right past, so finally just remembered to stop at the signed trailhead for Winniweta Falls on the west side of route 16 south of Pinkham Notch, about 3 miles before reaching the red covered bridge at Jackson. There is roadside parking for several cars here or one shady spot tucked into the north woods trailside just beyond the brown hiker sign .

We were then thinking of leaving the little stonefish at the falls themselves, a mile or so down the trail, but figured that most letterboxers probably wouldn't care to do the stream crossings and people were fishing right at the first crossing anyway. So, back to the trailhead we went with the little 2” dark gray whale-shaped stonefish and left it sandwiched between river rocks on the north side of the leaning birch with a "necklace" that would be just to the left of the driver's seat, if you managed to pull into that one shady parking spot to do your careful "catch and release fishing"!
