866. Urubamba
Quick drive-by outside an old Spanish-style hacienda spa hotel near the town of Urubamba in the Valle Sagrado de los Incas between Cusco and Machu Picchu, Peru

The Hotel San Augustin in the Sacred Valley of the Urubamba River was the place we stayed to acclimate for a couple of days before returning to higher elevations in the Peruvian Andes. To find the spot where we left this little "travelin' light", a slender 2" double arrowhead-shaped gray stone with "Urubamba" on back, first locate the orange bridge crossing the Urubamba River about half a mile or so east of the Urubamba town plaza and directly on the main road coming down the steep mountain from Chinchero. If you are coming from Chinchero, turn right after crossing the bridge and go a few more blocks east to find the spa hotel on the left with its reddish adobe zigzag wall in front . From the hotel entrance door, follow the sidewalk back west about 36 steps to another heavy wooden door tucked into a dip in the pavement. Then continue another 18 steps to the fourth "bump-out" in the zigzag wall, or the first one if coming from the west. There at the front base of that "bump-out", under a chunky 3" reddish rock, is where we left this little memento of our visit!
